I am a comic performer who paints.

Thirty years ago while performing in Berlin at the Wintergarten, I found a blank canvas lying on the footpath at Hackescher Markt. I picked it up, took it home and have been painting ever since.

My paintings are narratives, framed as figurative theatrical scenes.  They are inspired by shows I have performed in, a fascination with our socialite world and a desire to tell stories. They are also a day time obsession, when performing at night in shows around the world.

I start by placing my lead characters. They are often repositioned or transformed. Moving them develops the scene. New characters arrive. Drinks are served to celebrate. Bodies become intertwined. Perspective is set aside. A dash of decadence is added to spice things up. Odd creatures float by. Local elements squeeze in. Unwanted forms are transformed. A fish appears. Colours are mixed and applied in thin layers. And finally… everything finds its place.

I work with acrylic paint on large un-stretched canvases. Acrylic dries quickly and can be rolled up for travelling, essential to my life as a nomadic performing artist.
